My name is Jackson Mears and I am a junior at Urbandale High School. As a freshman, my team finished undefeated. As a sophomore, after being called up to my varsity squad toward the end of my freshman year, I was able to cement my place in the starting line-up. A decent season finished with a decent run during the postseason and ended quite nicely from my individual point of view, having received the honors of 2nd Team All-Conference and Academic All-State Honorable Mention.
I have played in a club soccer program since I was 4 years old. This last fall season, I was again selected to the top squad of Sporting Iowa where I worked hard with my team to reach the State Cup Semi-finals where our season unfortunately ended. In addition to my work with Sporting Iowa, I have been selected for the Iowa ODP program have been fully engaging in training and tough competitive events to continue to develop my skills.
I really enjoy soccer the most when it is a challenge and playing at a quick pace and highly competitive level. In the past few years, my club team has played in the Midwest Regional League. I asked my former club coach for some feedback and here's what he said. "Jackson is a well-rounded player with a solid technical base combined with great athletic attributes and a superb attitude. Jackson is the epitome of a team player, always willing to perform the role asked of him without question. Jackson has a great understanding of his tactical responsibilities while maintaining a knack for moments of improvisation and scoring goals." - Ross Moffat, Director of Player Development, Iowa Soccer Association.
My college goal is to play soccer at the highest competitive level. At this time, I have not yet decided on a major course for sure, but am leaning towards something in health particularly becoming a Doctor.
