Personal Statement

Hello,

My name is Xander Christian and I am a Senior at Bishop Miege High School, a private Catholic College Prep, in Roeland Park, Kansas. I finished my Senior year of H.S. with the following honors: First Honors Honor Roll (3.83 gpa), 1st Team All-Metro, 1st Team All-State, Defender of the Year, United Soccer Coaches High School Scholar All-American and we won our 7th Straight State Championship.

Since I first started playing soccer at the age of 6 years old I fell in love with everything about the game. Up until High School I was a multi-sport athlete playing competitive baseball, basketball, cross-country, soccer and taekwondo.  Of all the sports I’ve played soccer has always been my passion and my first love; so, once I got to High School I decided that soccer was going to be where I devoted my time athletically.

Soccer has always been part of my everyday life whether it be training, playing or watching club games and professional games. I love to study the games I watch so that I can continue to learn and grow not just as a player but as a teammate. I’m an incredibly hard worker on and off the pitch. Rarely does a day go by where I’m not doing something soccer related. I don’t believe in playing selfish soccer or soccer for personal accolades - the team always comes first. I love to create opportunities for my teammates whether it is through a perfectly played pass, cross or from making a run that opens the field.

For the last 10 years I have been playing competitive, year round club soccer. I’m a very versatile player and utilized in a number of positions but I feel like I contribute the best as center back or an attacking mid.

My goal is to continue to play competitive soccer in college while working towards my undergraduate and or graduate degrees. I’m looking for a school that will allow me to be an active participant academically and athletically. I am a devoted learner and will put in the necessary time and hard work required to reach my full potential and be the best student athlete I can be.

I welcome the opportunity to talk with you about your program and what I can bring to your team and your school.

Thank you for viewing my profile and for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Xander Christian

  • Following is a reference from my coach. "Xander Christian is a very talented and intelligent player. While Xander can play defensive mid, striker and or forward he is a natural attacking center mid. As an attacking mid Xander is a player with poise and control in the center of the field. He has the instinctive ability to create goal scoring opportunities for himself and for his teammates. With a great first touch, excellent vision, precise passing and quick feet he can slow down the game or speed up the play as needed. Xander is also a brilliant, go-to free kick taker with great accuracy, pace, and technique. Xander is a very coachable player and is always looking for ways to learn and grow. He has a very calm and poised demeanor on the field (but don't let that fool you). He leads by example and always puts the team before himself. I have coached this young man for 5 years and he has grown as a player and teammate in each one of them. I have never coached a kid who works so hard on his game as Xander does. It is truly a pleasure to be his coach. Please feel free to contact me with any questions." (Nate Friesner, July 2019)
