Personal Statement

I have been playing soccer since the mere age of 7. Since I first started playing soccer, I have aspired to become the best I could possibly be. I strive to bring success and a good attitude to wherever I go.

I have played club soccer since the first grade, and have played for the River City Jaguars at the varsity level for the past 5 years. I have served as a team captain for the past two years, and personally believe that our team has a good chance at winning state this year.  My philosophy is to lead by example while still encouraging my teammates.

In the school environment, I study hard and maintain a 4.0 GPA.  I also have excelled in other activities such as chess, where I am the state-champion in Kentucky for my age level, and part of the CEC high school chess team that won the state championship in 2018, and tied in 2019. I also have a vast work experience: working over summers with Springbok Lawn and Landscape (500+ hours my junior year), working as a chess teacher for Cornerstone Classical students, and volunteering in many capacities, (over 300 hours) especially in the special-needs community.

I want to attend a college where I can push myself in the classroom and on the field. I particularly want to attend the Air Force Academy or West Point,  and then serve my country in some form or fashion. However, I am open to all options and want to ultimately find the right college match that will provide an exceptional education and sports program. I am particularly interested in the field of mechanical engineering, and I hope to become a strong role model to all my peers and bring success to the class and sport environment.

While I cannot promise to be perfect, I promise that I would be an asset to any team through my perseverance, attitude, and consistency.

Awards and Activities

  • Awards► A - Honor roll for all years of high school. ► Accepted to Chinese exchange scholarship program trip for three weeks, in which I would have been a teacher assistant in stem-activities and English for middle school students for a free trip. It was cancelled due to Covid-19 however. ► On track to graduate with academic and technical honors.
  • ActivitiesChess – (Tournament player as well as teacher at Cornerstone classical for middle/high school students.) ► Winner of many tournaments including: individual KY state champion for 9th grade, and 2nd board on team that won the state championship for first time in CEC high school’s history in 10th grade. ► In my junior year, I won the individual Indiana regional tourney, and our team tied for first in the KY team state championship. ► I also won an award for the significant achievement of winning 5 local tournaments in a row. Volunteering – (Over 300 hours of volunteer time in various community projects and church related events.) ► Handi-Camp and Barren Heights are two of the special needs camps for which I have volunteered multiple years. I was introduced to these volunteer camps through my older brother who has autism. At the Handi-Camps I attended, I was the sole caretaker/ buddy for an individual (over 18) with mental or physical needs, providing personal care for them during their camp experience. ► At Barren Heights, I helped the guest families (families with one or more special needs children) to ensure that they had a great time as a family and as individuals. ► I volunteer as a gym assistant at my church on Thursday nights. ► I also volunteer with a summer VBS camp as a counselor for kids (ages 5-12). Work – ► Employment at Springbok Lawn and Landscape for 5 years (over 1000 hours). During the summer of my Junior year alone, I worked 500+ hours. The variety of tasks I did included: mowing, trimming, weed-eating, building retaining walls and walkways, laying sod, creating landscaping beds and waterfalls, designing plans for huge treehouses and building them, pulling weeds, leaf and snow removal, etc. ► Received a $10,000 scholarship from customer in lawncare for having a good attitude and hard work ethic. ► Employed as a Chess teacher at Cornerstone Classical School during my junior and senior years. I originally had the class period as only one hour on the website, but since the students loved the class so much – it eventually became a two-hour class. My class was typically only around five students, (very small school) but the students learned to appreciate the beauty of chess and love the game nearly as much as I do. ► My twin brother and I also helped several people move. Our reputations quickly grew as efficient, kind, and hardworking employees. We soon were being asked to help people we did not even know. Bible Quiz – (A spring program that participants compete over Scriptures and study materials. Participants are divided into teams which quiz against other teams from other churches.) ► In 9th and 10th grade, our team won regionals and placed third nationally in Div. 1. ► In my Junior year, our team placed first nationally in Div. 1. School Band – played bass clarinet in middle/ high school band for three years Speech /Debate club – participated for two years
