Personal Statement
My name is Devyn Lamarr Hicks. I am a junior at Chesapeake Math & IT (CMIT) Academy High School in Laurel Maryland. I have played for two years on the CMIT Varsity Team as their Outside Back and Center Back. I also play on the Soccer Association of Columbia (SAC) soccer team. I look forward to joining a highly competitive collegiate soccer team in 2022.
In 2018-19 season, I was a freshman starter on the Varsity team and awarded the Most Improved Player. My sociable personality makes it easy to form team bonds and for teammates to see me as a leader that gives accurate advice that can be trusted and followed. My forward-thinking allows me to see game patterns and ensure opponents' game plans are prevented. As a defender, I have the skills to quickly size up my opponents, and determine which approach I should take. This is all done while taking into consideration the weather, the surface, and position on the pitch. I can quickly adapt to every changing situation on the pitch, which requires me to use my speed to run down opponents. Whether on a travel team or school, coaches see my drive and determination and assigns me to the most dominating forwards/midfielders.
I began my freshman year in Geometry and sophomore year taking Quantitative Modeling. Today I am in Algebra 2. These are hard classes but I am able to balance my schedule with a cumulative 3.5 GPA. Thus far, I have been a high school honor roll student and continue to strive for excellence. It is ingrained in my family background with college degrees.
I would like to attend a school with a strong soccer program that has a competitive edge where I can continue to advanced in my soccer techniques and knowledge. At the same time, I would like a school that has an excellent Computer and/or Business program.
