Dear Coach,
My name is Alex Herbets and I am currently a high school Senior (Class of 2013) at The Bullis School in Maryland. I play goalkeeper for the DC United Academy. Last year I played for the U16 Potomac Academy. Also, I am the starting goalie for the Varsity team at my school. Currently, I am 6'0''and 160 lbs. Up until my 8th grade year, I split my time between being a midfielder and a goalkeeper. Going into high-school, I felt like a decision had to be made and I decided to focus on being a goalkeeper. As a result of splitting positions, I fell behind those who were always focused on being a goalie. Despite this, I have moved through the ranks and emerged in one the top leagues in the nation for my age group. I think this is a testament to my hard work, dedication, and will to succeed. I am focused during training and I strive to take what I learn from the sessions into games. I believe as a goalkeeper, my strengths are my abilities as a shot-blocker, and take on shooters in one-on-one situations, as well as my ability to win balls in the air. Another strength I have is my ability to organize my defense and command my box. In terms of college soccer, my dream is to play for a strong college program. However, I also want to go to a school that is known for academics as well as its athletics. My goal is to play soccer at the highest level possible, but I also appreciate the necessity for a strong academic background. Ultimately, I work hard at everything I do whether it is school or soccer; I have 94/100 GPA and scored a 32 on my ACT. Thank you for taking the time to read my statement and I hope you will give me a chance.
