Personal Statement
Hey coaches, Luke here! I have always dreamed of playing soccer in college. I love the game and everyday I aspire to get better. I love any opportunity to play, no matter who I play with.
As for who I am, I am a leader on and off the field. As a High School Junior I had a great season and learned so much about what motivates me and my teammates. As a Senior, I will be one of the team captains for the Boys Varsity Soccer Team at Arlington High School in MA and I am really excited to motivate the boys in the fall of 2023. I am a 3-sport athlete but really love soccer and I have played in-town and on competitive Club teams since I was 8 years old for NEFC and SFC New England. Coaches can see my passion, drive, and the way I bring others together, so I always have great relationships with them.
Since third grade I have played on a select travel soccer team. As a kid with empathy, I bring people along, including those who are not always confident. I am also honest, energizing others around me and owning my mistakes. I believe it’s important to pick up your "family" (teammates), move forward, and work hard.
Over the past 9 years, my skills have improved significantly, I am strong, tough (physically and mentally), and I believe that my positive leadership, selfless nature, and energy has helped me and my teammates to get better at soccer.
Since Sophomore year I have played on the Varsity Soccer team. I played Striker or CAM and was put in the game to create opportunities for my team and chaos for the other team's defensive line. When this happened, my teammates (and I) often scored goals. Nearly every time, if our team was not playing aggressively on offense, our coach asked me to “make things happen!“
As a Freshman, I was a starter on the Junior Varsity team as the attacking midfielder. I worked at 100% every game, increased my team‘s skills, and brought the team together. We didn’t have a captain, but I often played the role of captain.
Now on to my game style. I am an attacking center mid, who can play striker and make skillful breakaway runs and take really hard shots on net. My game style consists of seeing the field, moving the ball around defenders by using upper body strength, and passing strategically or placing the ball into the corners of the net. I am a selfless player who feeds the balls to my teammates whenever I should, while trying to think two steps ahead (just like when I play chess, which I love to play). Fun fact, I score more goals with my left foot than my right, but I am right-dominant!
Now, I don't mean to make this any longer but I feel like I should mention my school life. I was the Class of 2024 President Freshman and Sophomore years and the Class Treasurer as a Junior and Senior. I take Honors and AP classes to challenge myself, and I am a straight A student. My best academic year was as a Junior when I took my most challenging and intense classes ever. Lastly, I would like to mention I am a very hard worker, very trainable, and a really fast learner.
I am sure those who are looking at this have to look through thousands of profiles for your college, but I hope this was memorable and you think of having me join your recruiting roster. I thank you for your time.
