My name is Rafael Matta, I am a junior at Brookline High School in Brookline Massachusetts. and my goal is to play as competitively as possible in college. I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. My passion for soccer started early at 4 years old. At age 5, I tried out for the Barcelona academy team in Rio and was accepted. I played for Barcelona Academy for 6 years and during this time we won several championships including the State Championship and the Zico Cup. I also traveled to Barcelona with the team to play against different academy teams from several countries. When I was 11, I left Barcelona Academy and signed with Boa Vista, which is a second division professional team in Brazil. We played against teams like Flamengo, Gremio, and other big professional teams in Brazil. I moved to the United States at age 12 and joined Global Premier Soccer Academy.
Currently, I am a starting member of the Varsity Soccer Team at my high school. I joined the Varsity Team at the beginning of my sophomore year. Even though our season was heavily impacted by COVID-19, our team still won the Bay State Championship. I also currently play for the New England Surf Club as a center attacking midfielder, winger (right or left), and center forward.
