Personal Statement
Coach:
If you are looking for a player that understands the game of soccer---when to attack, defend, pass and shoot--and has all of the skill sets developed from team, club and private training for 12 years--I'm your choice. I love competing and soccer is my forte. My father played college soccer and I want to play as well. I am highly coachable and hard working---I do not know any other way to practice or play, other than giving 100% effort.
I want to compete in this sport at an academic institution that will present as much of a challenge to me in the classroom as will playing on the soccer field. There are many soccer players with great skills, but if they do not know how to play within a system and play with the TEAM concept in mind, their talent is of little value at the collegiate level. I bring the TEAM player attitude to every squad I play on.
Please review my video to see my aggressive intensity, skills and awareness of position and team play. My highlights video will show that everything I do on the soccer field as a defender is geared to stopping the opposing team, controlling the ball and passing to teammates to advance the play.
Off the field, with my family, I am involved in charitable work at homeless shelters and providing food services for those in need. As important as athletics has been to me, it has also been important to me to help others in need. My Christian education and beliefs fuels my desire to make a difference in the lives of other people as well as in the classroom and on the soccer field.
It is my goal to play soccer at the most demanding level in college and to also make a difference for the college that honors me with their support, both academically and on the playing field.
Thank you for considering me for your team
Regards,
Matthew Guido
