Personal Statement

I am team player who loves to win.  From sixth grade through sophomore year of high school, I split my time between soccer and football.  I was a starting running back, linebacker and corner in football and starting center back in soccer.  In both sports, I’ve been team captain or co-captain.  For the last three years, I’ve been the starting center back for club soccer teams that have won the top bracket of the Mid-West Regional League and have competed three straight years in the USYS National League. Last year, I decided put my full focus and efforts into soccer. The high school football coaches were disappointed, but last fall I played for my high school soccer team.  I was the starting mid-fielder and rarely came off the field.  I’ve always been known for my passing skills and hard work, but playing this position further improved my endurance and ball handling skills.  Our team won its first district playoff game.  At the fall sports awards banquet, I was surprised to receive the Varsity MVP award.   Teammates on my club team, Alliance FC, Grand Rapids, have told me directly that they appreciate my work ethic and team play.  They say that my intensity at practice and in games motivates them to work harder.   With my full focus on soccer this year, I think I improved more this year than I have in any other year.  Now I am looking for a winning college soccer program where I can continue to grow as a player and person.
I am also a strong student in school.  I think my work ethic on the soccer field carries over to the classroom.  This fall, I was asked to join the National Honor Society as a junior.  I have a 3.8 GPA and am currently taking AP math and AP science classes.  Last semester was my first 4.0 semester and I am currently on pace to have another 4.0 semester.  I haven’t decided yet on a career or major, but have interest in the health sciences, so I am looking for a college where I will be able to pursue that interest further.
Finally, I am involved with other high school students at my church.  A group of about 60 of us get together most Sunday evenings to grow and support each other in faith.  We also find things to do to support others.  This spring a group of us will be spending our spring break on a week-long service trip helping with small construction and research projects for ECHO, an organization battling world hunger.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
