My name is Leyton Becker. I live on a pig farm in Minnesota, so I'm no stranger to hard work. In school, I maintain a 3.5 GPA and am in the top 20% in my grade. I try hard in all my classes getting the best scores I can. I don't take a study hall hour, instead, I take additional electives so I can educate myself more. I have two siblings, a brother and a sister. I have been playing soccer since I was very little and have loved every minute of it. In the summer, I have coached my brothers U8 and U10 soccer teams and referee to make a little extra money. In the winter, I play varsity hockey where I am the starting defensemen. Fall is my favorite season because of harvest where I'm able to run the grain cart in the field, and most of all when I can play soccer. After soccer practice, I usually stay one hour after practice just to shoot around and play more soccer because it's a game I truly love.
On the field, I have great vision. For four years at the varsity level, I have spent much of my time as a central defender and midfielder. This has helped me build my vision on the field. I take pride in my awareness of the entire field and use that to set up and build attacks through a strong passing offense. My coach has instilled a sense of patience in me with my defending. I seek to deny goal scoring opportunities, deflect incoming passes or shots, and dispossess the other team in order to create opportunities for my team.
Off the field, I try to lead by example. I'm involved with FCA were I have been a huddle leader for the past three years. I am in FFA where I serve as the treasurer for our local chapter. These things help me grow as a leader and as an individual which helps me become a better leader for my team. Being a captain is an honor to represent your team and I strive to be able to represent my team the best to my abilities whether it is on the field or in the community. I want to be a good role model to everyone and lead by example.
Thank you for reading my statement. I hope you learned a little bit more about me, how truly passionate I am for soccer, and how important being a leader is to me.
