Personal Statement

Hey coaches, my names is Clayton Lampen. Soccer has driven me throughout my life as a way to express who I am, and how determined I can be. I've been playing since I could walk from the influence of my father. Growing up in life a lot has changed, including my love of the game.  As I've gotten older, I've become more and more drawn to running up and down the field, my love of the sport has grown tremendously along with my skills. I've played competitively for most of my life, I've also played rec-ball. My high-school career was a big change to my life. Where I grew up there wasn't soccer around. I had to drive 30-90 miles for games. This meant that I knew I had to go far from home to play the game I enjoyed at high school level. That's how I ended up boarding at St. Paul. I was willing to leave my home and my family to play for a team I had no experience with, I guess you could say I took a leap of faith for the love of the game. It paid off, we have been to state twice since I've been a varsity starter. We actually won the entire Class 1 state title this past season (2016).

My freshman and sophomore years I knew I wasn't the biggest, meanest, most-skilled player on the field. This challenged me to better my best. I put my all into the game, jumping head first. It was do-or-die, sink-or-swim. I rigorously trained to become better, working out and practicing on my own for months on end. It paid off in the end. My junior year I helped my team win the state title for the first time in our school's history. I ended up earning all the awards a player can earn in high school soccer. I was 1st team all district, all region, and all state. I also was awarded with "all-region defensive player of the year" and "all-state co-defensive player of the year".

Throughout my life this sport has changed the way I think, feel, and push myself.

    Best regards, Clay Lampen
