My name is Drew Johnson. I am a 5’10” Center Midfielder; I play CAM in club and DCM in high school. I am a very versatile player but do best in the middle. I am currently a senior in high school; I take my future as a student athlete seriously and would like to connect with Universities I am interested in. For club soccer, I am a member of St. Louis Scott Gallagher, Illinois Elite/ECNL. We compete in the ECNL league in the Heartland Conference as well as participate in National Showcases annually. I have been with Scott Gallagher since a young age where I received training and opportunities that have helped shape who I am as a player and person today.
I attend Rockwood Summit High School in St. Louis, MO. The soccer program at Rockwood is a competitive soccer program where we strive to compete at State finals each year. As a freshman, I was honored to have received the Coaches award at the end of the season. I started Varsity my sophomore year and received 2nd team all-conference following the conclusion of that season. My junior year I started Varsity, was named all District, all-conference and team captain. I was also awarded the Falcon Flight award, in recognition of excellence as an athlete, student and leader at Rockwood Summit. I believe that my work ethic and talent would be an asset for a competitive collegiate team. I thrive in an environment and on teams where we are a team on and off the field, team chemistry is very important. I believe I am a very "coachable" player, always take and seek feedback to help me be better every game and every year.
After our home opening Varsity game this year I received the following note from the Referee after he submitted it to MSHSAA. "Rockwood Summit (Captain) #3 Drew Johnson exemplified everything you want your captain to be. Besides being insanely skilled and probably best player on the field, his compete / hustle level was also off the charts! He also was a great leader talking to teammates who maybe needed some instruction but always in positive tone. Plus he was always excited for his players who did positive things. The most important help to me was he was great listener when I'd ask him to talk to teammates who were maybe whining too much and also teammates who might be displaying reckless tendencies. I of course chatted with those players but always good when their captain reinforces the message!"
Following our game on 9/20/22 I received the "Class of Suburban" Award. "In recognition of representing your school with dignity and sportsmanship...the Saint Louis Public High School Athletics and Activities Association presents this award for your efforts in tonight's event."
I have been taught values at home, through coaches and teachers that have helped shape who I am as a person and student athlete. Growing up I played multiple sports, focusing on basketball and soccer upon entering high school. The ability to participate in so many sports has shaped my athletic abilities and has taught me how to adapt to different styles and expectations of coaches. Ultimately, I realized soccer was the sport I was truly passionate about and strive to play at a high level in college. I believe I have become a person, player, teammate and leader that would have a lot to contribute to a competitive college program.
