Personal Statement
My name is Matt Flanagan and I am writing this personal statement to explain why I am a strong candidate to go onto the next level and play college soccer. However, first I think it is necessary to explain why I want to continue my career in soccer. I was first introduced to the beautiful game when I was three years old, and let me tell you, I have been hooked ever since. If there is an open field, available session, or game to play, you can find me there working on my game and always improving. My love for soccer transcends words and I cannot even begin to the describe the emotions acquired after winning a state championship in front of thousands of people or creating a beautiful goal through dynamic play with some of your closest friends. Throughout my entire life I have lived by the idea that anything worth doing, is worth overdoing. This mindset is extremely present in all areas of my life, whether it be athletics, academics, or in everyday activities as well. For example, in the world of academics I scored a nearly perfect math score on the PSAT and am excited to see what I am capable of doing on the SAT in August and September. Whether it is on the pitch, in the classroom, or just about anywhere else, you can trust that I will consistently give 110% no matter the circumstances. I have also been able to build great leadership abilities on the soccer field and have transferred those into other areas of my life including four years of high school class presidency, six time captain of indoor and outdoor track teams, senior captain of the Bedford High School varsity soccer program, and president and founder of a chapter of Best Buddies at Bedford. My leadership, tendency to work harder than humanly possible at all times, as well as technical ability are the reasons why I should continue to play at the next level.
