Alvin Kamau Omondi '23 Recruiting Profile

Sports have been in my DNA from an early age, having played soccer from a young age and swimming competitively until age twelve. At the age of five, when I joined Ligi Ndogo- a local youth development academy in my home country, Kenya, I discovered my passion for soccer. I have played the sport at many different levels, participating in events initially for my club, then school soccer, locally and internationally, and more recently transitioning to elite soccer both internationally and in my home country at a regional and national level. I have experience playing soccer as an elite soccer athlete for the past 11 years in Africa, Europe, and, currently, the United States.

The dedication and commitment I have witnessed from my coaches have inspired me not only as a player but also to learn more about the game of soccer and use that knowledge to make a difference in my community. This sparked my interest and desire in sport science and management, which has influenced me significantly in the choice of degree/major I want to pursue in college. I am actively involved in the community as a volunteer coach during my free time- In 2020, when I was home during the COVID-19 lockdown, I volunteered as a junior coach at the same academy that nurtured me- Ligi Ndogo Academy in Nairobi, Kenya. This practical hands-on experience has equipped me with a more versatile approach to problem-solving and showed me exactly where my interests and attributes are best suited.

 Receiving an excellent college education is important to me, and I want to continue developing myself as an elite athlete at a professional level while growing academically. I am focused on dedicating time to this field to achieve my career aspirations of becoming a successful sports professional. By joining the college soccer team, I hope to bring my knowledge, diversity of experience, and personal skills to the team while getting the opportunity to study a suitable degree course in college.
