Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Eliseo Chavez and I am an aspiring soccer player. I started soccer rather late, at the age of 8, so I found myself always looking up to everyone else. I felt helpless being at the bottom so I began training extra, I would practice on my own every single day and signed up for multiple camps every summer to do anything I could to catch up. Before long, I found myself being able to play with everyone else, giving me the much needed boost in confidence as I continued to practice more and played on two teams at the same time to gain as much exposure as I could. I continued like this through middle school in which I began to work hard academically, becoming one of the top students at my school and began to do volunteer work for my small school. It started out rough but I managed to juggle school and become a good enough player to play for my New Mexico ODP team for a few years. I played midfielder for many years and it wasn't until my team realized that my athletic ability and technicality could help score many goals that I began to play forward and I scored by beating players off the dribble, outrunning defensive lines, and paying special attention to my position and staying aware of my surroundings so as not to find myself offsides. I hope to be able to represent Region IV ODP and eventually the nation in soccer to improve and play in college, and ideally, play professionally. Thank you for reading my statement.
