Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Bruno Sire and I am an American goalkeeper who has spent his junior and senior years at international soccer academies in France for year-round professional development. After a successful tryout in Los Angeles, I was accepted as a student athlete at the International Center of European Football. Within days of my arrival I could feel the difference in the quality and intensity from my varsity team. I feel extremely lucky and grateful for this opportunity, especially while my fellow athletes back home had their athletic programs and game schedules dramatically interrupted by Covid.
This academy experience has accelerated my development as a player dramatically, pushing me to grow while playing along side some of the best young athletes in the world. My schedule has been intense, doubling my weekly training hours from the varsity schedule at SF Prep, and challenging me on the pitch with regular scrimmages against the local pro reserve team. While my U18 club never won against the pros, I experienced first hand the power and skills needed to play at that level. It taught me so much about my strengths as a keeper and where I still need to grow. For example, I have learned that…
- I thrive under pressure. The bigger the challenge, the better I perform.
- Becoming the best soccer player I can be is not about avoiding mistakes or failure, but instead from my ability to use those experiences to perfect my skills.
- I am a people person, yet I am also an individualist. A team sport with a position like goalie is a perfect fit for my personality. My desire to win drives me, but not just for myself, for something greater than myself, my team.
- I have learned that it takes unwavering commitment, discipline, perseverance to continue to grow. By choosing this journey I am building my self confidence both on and off the pitch.
My goal is to be part of a demanding and competitive college athletics program, while pursuing a degree in business and economics as a way to successfully give back to the world. I took this journey abroad to push myself to my limits, and I feel it has paid off. I am now ready for the rigor of college academics and athletics.
Thank you for your interest,
