To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Gavin Christopher Herzog, and I am a dedicated and skilled goalkeeper seeking to compete at the NCAA Division I level, while pursuing academic excellence. I aim to combine my strong technical abilities, exceptional work ethic, and my leadership experiences with aspirations of becoming a professional-level soccer player, while earning a double degree in the field of forensic science and criminal justice.
I am a confident and mature16-year-old sophomore at JFK/Bellmore High School on Long Island, New York. Growing up, my parents have instilled in me a strong sense of discipline and the importance of reaching high academic standards. To date (sophomore year), my overall GPA is an 86, but as I progress through my high school career, I continue to challenge myself with higher-level courses and engaging electives to enhance my academic performance.
In my freshman year at JFK/Bellmore, I was honored to earn the starting varsity goalkeeper position for the 2023 fall season, under Coach Ari Bisk’s guidance. With the support of the coaching staff and my teammates, including the junior and senior goalkeepers that mentored me throughout the 2023 fall season, I was instrumental in contributing to our team’s success, as we achieved a historic landmark—becoming “Conference Champions” for the first time in over two (2) decades.
This milestone was a testament to the dedication of the entire team, and I am grateful for the unwavering support and confidence my coaches and teammates had in my ability as their goalkeeper, as we secured this tremendous accomplishment and a forever lasting memory. The mentorship from the graduating seniors has inspired me immensely, as well as fueled added motivation as I head into my sophomore season, with aspirations of securing additional achievements pertaining to the JFK/Bellmore High School soccer team’s success.
In addition to representing my high school, I currently play and I’m rostered on both MLS Next and MLS II (NAL) for:
Blau Weiss Gottschee (BWG) - 2009 Teams.
I am an aggressive goalkeeper, extremely coachable, and highly committed to learning and improving my craft. I am a leader on and off the pitch, who effectively communicates with my coaches and teammates consistently throughout each practice and game of play. I consider it my duty as the last line of defense to put my teammates in the best possible position to prevent us from conceding a goal. I pride myself on being accountable and fostering a sense of respect and appreciation among my teammates, and taking the necessary actions to help establish a connected team culture. The beauty of soccer is that it is a true team sport, where everyone’s contributions is essential in achieving ultimate success and excellence, which creates an overall winning environment.
Furthermore, when the time comes, I welcome the opportunity to serve as an ambassador to the sport as well as a role model for the next generation of players.
