Personal Statement
To start off, my collegiate goals and aspirations are to attend and graduate from a highly competitive school academically that has a soccer team which mimics that same high level of competition. Soccer gives me this feeling that I am unable to represent through words. The only other thing that makes me feel anywhere near the same way is succeeding at something I had set out to accomplish. Whether that is finally completing an assignment to the best of my ability or meeting and surpassing expectations on the pitch. I have field vision and an intuitive understanding of the game so I've been told. In high school, I generally play Striker or Winger and when needed CDM. For my club team, Black Watch Rush, I play Center Back.
Some of my coaches have said that I have hustle, perseverance, leadership and, finally I am highly coachable since I take criticism very well and recognize my own mistakes.
I am athletically gifted with agility, burst speed, and endurance for which I thank my Ethiopian genes. I also have a very accurate long ball and shoot very well from the outside. I had 20 goals this season the majority were from 20 to 30 yards out and 10 assists. I am the team high scorer. My relative weakness is playing in tights spaces. I have tremendously improved with persistence and practice so I will just keep going until I get a new relative weakness.
Without soccer and the motivation it has given me, I wouldn't be anywhere close to the person I am today. A ball at my feet has been the best way for me to clear my head and keep me in a good place mentally. With that said, I'm glad I found soccer at a young age, and it has helped shape me into a well-rounded and open-minded person. Soccer has taught me leadership, decision making, communication skills, and has given me the ability to seek purpose in other areas. I plan on going into forensics. I like to figure things out and studying a crime scene is something that sparks my interest. With college in view and a path that I have found that (as of now) fits my interest, I can start to really hone in on my future academic and athletic goals.
