Hard Work, Energy, Grit and Mindfulness are some of the character traits I would bring to any University athletic program. After my fourth year of playing on a high school soccer team I have learned an extraordinary amount about the importance of teamwork, good leadership, and resilience. I went from being brought up in the eighth grade to a weak varsity team that had lost most of its players the year prior at graduation, to being a Junior stand out on a team that has been undefeated for two years. During this time I have noticed multiple changes throughout our team in leadership. My first year it showed that we were a team with little authority, having non-intense practices and becoming easily discouraged in games. Now I am a leading player on the team, and I have become well affiliated with how a team should function: all parts of a machine working as hard as they possibly can to complete a common goal. We played last fall with this sense of unity and unanimous effort, and left the season undefeated in the league and winners of our conference. I am a player who is incredibly versatile, a leader who has great soccer IQ, and will do anything possible to ensure the victory of my team.
Academics and track are also large areas of my life. In the classroom I study just as hard and diligently as I play on the field. I have welcomed every opportunity to take more challenging courses. I constantly find myself deeply interested in my classes and never bored or negligent of my work. I am looking to attend a college or university with a nationally recognized liberal arts program where I could pursue a degree in political science and government. Recognizing that every school has a mission, I would represent my University and it's athletics program responsibly. In the spring, on top of soccer and school, I run track to stay in shape. Competitive running is one of the hardest things that I have ever done. It involves intense workouts, cramping, heat, exhaustion, and sweat, and I loved every minute of it. I pride myself on a persistent mentality that is willing to work harder than everyone else; a mentality that helped me place second in the half mile as a freshman for te sectionals of my conference. A hard working mentality is something that I apply, not only to running, but to all aspects of my life.
