Personal Statement
Taking one of the winning penalties in the NYCSL City Cup Final 2019 was one of the highlights of my soccer career. Nevertheless, the experience that made me grow the most was my brief time with the BW Gottschee pre-academy. When I was first offered a spot as a developmental player (DP) I was disappointed that I wasn’t going to be fully on the academy, but this decision drove me to focus more on soccer than ever before. I became a much more confident player and strengthened my leadership skills as the pre-academy team captain. I have carried these abilities with me, two years later, to the academy team where I have earned my spot and cemented my status as Gottshchee’s starting 6. I brought a more defensive edge to the midfield, giving the team good balance and allowing a more attacking spirit throughout the field. Now, I’m not only known as a strong player who never loses heart, but as a positive and encouraging communicator on the field. I have spent seven years with Gottschee and have loved every minute of playing. I have learned the values of tenacity, loyalty, teamwork, and confidence. Not only do I believe in my ability to compete in a college soccer program, but I believe I have the determination and persistence to have an immediate impact on your team.
I am looking for a college that is a good match academically as well as athletically. Virtual school during Covid was a challenge for me, but with a return to in-person learning, I am already seeing my grades improve despite the harder course load in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. This can be seen through my first-semester report card, which is a more accurate reflection of my academic abilities.
I’ve always enjoyed playing trumpet; as a member of the UNIS Jazz band and Wind Ensemble, I was privileged to have played with the Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall in January of 2020. I also have an affinity for languages and am proficient in French and Spanish, and have taken courses in Latin in the past. I have always been proud of my reputation as a team player and leader and was honored to have been selected to be a participant in the leadership training program at Surprise Lake Camp in the summer of 2021; in which I was awarded the "Leader of the Summer."
But what I truly love is soccer.
