Personal Statement
Goalkeeping is my passion. Soccer is my game. Determination, dedication and hard work - that is my philosophy! If you want a keeper who commands the respect of his teammates and gives everything he's got on and off the field, then I am your man.
I want to share a story with you...
Flashback to June 24, 2019...The only thing standing between me and summer break was a Chem Regents the next morning. I studied extensively for the week. I had a tryout for a college showcase that night. I was eager to clear my head, play ball and get a good night's sleep. My memory from that night is foggy. I recall going up for a save. When I landed, I knew something was wrong. I was rushed to the hospital with a compound fracture of the right arm - both ulna and radius bones shredded.
Emergency surgery, plates and screws, many stitches and concern for nerve damage, the surgeon told me I could kiss my Fall 2019 season goodbye. My arm needed to heal, and only time would support that. I heard his words but never took them to heart.
Fast forward to September 2019...I was determined to do everything possible to earn a spot on my high school Varsity team. I did whatever I could to stay fit, sharp and healthy, even though I couldn't do much without my hands. I ended up missing the first 2-3 games but fought my way back into net in the starting keeper spot.
My injury taught me a lot about myself - as a player, and as a person. First, your position on the field is earned, not given. There is always someone faster, stronger and better. You always need to keep working! Also, no matter how hard you get knocked down, you always need to get back up. You can't live with fear and always need to do what you love to push yourself and grow.
After my injury, I was able to get back up only a few short months later and be a major contributor to my team. I am proud to share that I was recognized as the Most Valuable Player along with All Conference honors for my high school team. More to come!
