Personal Statement
Growing up in my town, everyone I knew played sports. We played soccer in the fall, basketball in the winter and Little League in the spring. Later flag football got added to the mix. When I was 5 years old, there was nothing better than to be allowed to run around and then get french fries at the snack bar after a game. Back then it didn't matter to me if we won or lost. It actually made me feel bad when we won because someone from the other team would cry because they lost. As I got older, winning definitely beat losing, but that feeling of being on a team, working together, is still as important to me as it was 12 years ago.
Having the opportunity to play both school soccer and club soccer has absolutely made me a more complete player because I am on defense for club and offense for school. I thrive on continually learning the game as a player and am committed to continue to improve my skills. With my experience of being captain on different levels and teams, I know I can make positive contributions on the college level. Playing for a school is very important to me and that is why I didn't play for the Academy team when I was asked. Wearing the jersey of my college will be the result of all the work and time I've put into the sport. I once heard someone ask why players didn't have names on the back of our club jerseys. The answer was "we play for the name on the front, not on the back". That to me is what soccer is about, and I would be so proud to continue to play for a school that would be the best fit for me as a student as well as an athlete.
