As a kid, soccer was just a game, and my initials, MCA, were just letters. But as I grew, so did my love for the sport, and those initials took on a whole new meaning.
From cheering on my favorite teams during the 2014 World Cup to kicking my first ball with the Kenmore Spurs at age 8, soccer became my passion. And within this world of soccer, I found my niche as a CAM—Central Attacking Midfielder. It's like being the conductor, some kind of leader. Orchestrating plays and making magic happen on the field. Having the power to dictate what happens at all times and being responsible when things go wrong is a joy not everyone can understand.
But soccer isn't just about the game—it's about the people, the connections, and the nicknames. My friends would call me outgoing and enthusiastic, reflecting my energetic and spirited play on the field. My mom would say I'm honest, sociable, and charming, mirroring my sportsmanship, teamwork, and charisma during matches. My coaches see me as a maestro—a player who leads by example, reads the game like a book, and works tirelessly to improve, showcasing my dedication, intelligence, and relentless pursuit of excellence both on and off the field. These are the characteristics that define me, a blend between the thoughts of all the valued people in my life, shaping the way I see things.
As I stand on the cusp of college decisions, soccer remains my guiding light. Ever since I started high school, soccer has led me in more ways than just athletically. Joining the soccer team with my best friend who transferred from a different school, we had to try to fit in with the rest. I also had the responsibility of helping my friend who wasn't the greatest at fitting in. Guiding him made me realize that through the game of soccer, I was able to use my newly formed connections and characterized myself as someone who won’t leave anyone behind. And while working through my classes and playing for my team, I learned that nothing worth doing in life comes easy. My high school helped me feed my hard working habits and boosted my persistence to do whatever it takes to be successful, which equipped me with the skills and abilities to overcome the challenges of college and beyond.
From the early days when MCA was just a name to now, where it represents my transformation into a CAM, soccer has shaped me in ways I never thought possible. So as I prepare to step onto your college field, know that I'm not just bringing my initials—I'm bringing the heart and soul of every player who's inspired me along the way. This isn't just a game—it's my life, and I'm ready to give it my all.
