Soccer has been a part of my life as long as I can remember. I love to play, to practice, and perfect my skills every month, every year. I play, or have played many other sports, track, basketball, baseball and martial arts, but soccer has always been my focus.
On the high school varsity team I focus on improvement each time I play; both personally (for instance making accurate goal shots, dribbling through the other team, or settling the ball well every time) and for the team. I like seeing my team mates improve and I encourage the other players. As captain, I ran the recent summer practices and often now lead the team on drills in practice.
During the matches I act as a point of focus, setting up the plays, passing to my front line or taking the ball through myself. I would call myself a technical player – always looking for the right play, how best to use my team mates' positions, and anticipating the other team's movements. Using my brain as well as my skills has paid off on each team I have played with.
I love to score goals but I am also happy when I can give an assist to a fellow player. I also never give up. I play to win no matter what the score until the last whistle has been blown.
I am originally from Brooklyn NY. I have also lived in Melbourne Beach FL, and now live on a farm with my older brother and mother in the mountains of western North Carolina. My background is diverse.
I attend the Madison Early College High School, so my junior year and this year, which is my senior year, I take all college courses at ABTech College in Asheville NC.
The courses are more intense than the high school courses and it has been a challenge to get all the work done and play sports year round. This year I feel like I have succeeded in prioritizing and using my time intelligently.
The Early College has no sports teams but allows us to play on the regular high school teams so I play varsity soccer and varsity basketball for Madison High School (our sister school).
Even though I have taken many college classes in high school I still plan on attending a university for all 4 years to get a bachelors degree and play soccer all 4 years.
During the off season I play on a rec soccer team which has most of our varsity players, and in the winter I play on an indoor futsal league which really refines my footwork. My coach has been a great help and inspiration throughout. My mother strongly supports playing competitive sports (she played sports in high school and college) and my father, who is a native of Venezuela, loves soccer too.
I intend to keep playing competitive soccer as long as I can in life and can't wait to play on a college team.
