Hi, my name is Nicholas (Nico) Mechelli. I am a Senior at Cuthbertson High School in Waxhaw, NC
I’m a huge soccer (fútbol, as I’ve been raised to call it) fan. My commitment to the game and the continued improvement I aspire to shows up in how hard I train and play. As a student of the game the physical, technical aspects and the high intelligence required for the plays to be successful, excites and drives me. I will never be able to understand how someone could think this game is boring. I know it takes more than skill to achieve my soccer goals. I train to learn, hoping that my next play will be better than my last. I train hard because I know I am part of a team and whatever my role is, it is ultimately important to the success of the team. Being dependable and a team player is important to me. I understand the concept of one ball to eleven players. I have always been a team player and my teammates have become, what I hope to be, lifelong friends. My love for the game came natural, but was also reinforced and taught to me by my Argentinian parents and grandfather. My first lessons in game understanding was taught to me by my grandfather. As young as I can remember, my grandfather would often ask me to analyze a game as we were watching it. Learning the game visually, analyzing plays as a small child with my father and grandfather, fed my love of the game.
I believe I am prepared to take the next step in my soccer journey, to join a team where I will continue to learn and grow and contribute at a high level. My parents always say to be successful you have to follow your passion, so I follow the ball. Thank you for your time.
