Personal Statement
A teacher once asked me to share my life goals for a project outlining my future. I was asked to share special events, age in which I accomplished, and how I would achieve. I am sharing these as my personal statement and under each goal sharing elements or aspects as to why I am a good candidate for recruitment. While the timing of my goals may be different today, my goals haven’t changed.
Goals I set for myself when I was 11 years old, May 27th, 2015
2021/Age 17: Professional Soccer Player...achieved by practice and working my hardest
-
Dedication, hard work and overcoming obstacles: I am from a small town a good distance from a major city where there is plenty of teams to pick from. Once the team I had been playing with separated due to age and older school options, there was not a team in my area to join for my age and ability. I tried out for a team in Columbus, about an hour and a half away and was selected to join a team an age bracket up and in their academy level. This meant giving up a lot of personal time to drive 3 hours a day, 5 days a week, and a sacrifice for my parents and family, however we have figured out how to make the best of it as we get a lot more time together in the car. - I balance training with time with my friends and studying or projects and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
- Today I realize I won’t be graduating college when I am graduating high school, but I have big goals and work towards them.
2022/Age 18: First college degree in sports administration or law....achieved by taking classes after soccer practice in the evenings during high school
-
Academic Goals: Graduate, I am hopeful to take my math, history, and language skillsets and apply them to the field of business. I am looking for a well-rounded experience that allows me to be flexible with future career opportunities.
2024/Age 20: Have a wife and family...achieved by love
This might have been my goal when I was 11, but it isn’t today. I don’t want to marry till much older!
Having said that, I think it is important to have a great network and support group and I have so many people who encourage me from my parents to my coaches and teammates and friends.
I also think it is important to have passion and love what you do.
2026/Age 22: Win first World Cup...achieved by working well with my team
-
Teamwork and Big Goals: I have learned that I have a sense of leadership, have creativity and vision, dedication, am coachable, and work hard. My coaches and folks I interact with tell me this as well
2032/Age 28: Earn world respect through soccer ...achieved by being a model in giving and sportsmanship
-
Athlete Characteristics: I have the ability to see the field clearly and anticipate teammates and opponents actions, which allows me to position myself to defend or distribute the ball. My coaches have always noted me as a “smart player”. I am a strong yet selfless player. I lead with making the smart play for the team. I like to help others and give
2056/Age 52: Become FIFA rule changer
Someday my body will be ready for a break. Will take my experience and coach and help continue to improve game and new kids in the game
2068/Age 64: Watch my kids graduate college
2103/Age 100: To die in a peaceful way, achieved through living a good and giving life

From Birth through my life: I began soccer at age 4 on a rec team for my school. My coaches would hold me back by my shirt and wait till teammates had time with the ball, they would let lose, I would steal the ball and score. At 6 I moved to my first competitive soccer team (U8). I started off in club as a striker and had a knack for scoring goals. As I got older, coaches discovered I had a knack for preventing goals. As you can see my life goals revolve around soccer until I retire. I have and will continue to work hard as long as I can to achieve my goals.
