1 Corinthians 9:24 - Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.
This Bible verse is one that I learned early in life and it has remained an inspiration to me throughout the years. So many blessings have surrounded me in my life from my relationship with God to the love of my parents and my wonderful family life to school and the wonderful friends I have made, and all have played a major role in making me the person I am today.
On the field, between the lines, is where I truly enjoy to be. When I am on the field, everything else leaves my mind and I feel at home. I come to work hard and I don't come to finish in second place. I come to win and when I don't, I shake off the loss and focus on what is needed to be done to come prepared to win the next game.
I want to play college sports, simply because I am not ready to hang it up in two years. Also, I truly enjoy the bonds I develop with my brothers on the field. I feel sports mimic the real world when it comes to relationships, teamwork in business, and learning about what works and what doesn't. One of sports' best lessons is how to win graciously and how to lose with dignity.
I feel God has given me the gift to be a strong leader and I know this gift can be valuable at higher levels of competition. As I continue to grow my leadership abilities as well as improve my overall skill level, I see it as a definite opportunity to succeed as I work toward playing beyond my high school years. One of my favorite quotes comes from well-known, soccer legend, Pele, who said, "Success is no accident. It is hard, work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do". In all areas of my home, academic, and athletic life, I strive to never stop learning while pushing myself to be the best I truly can be.
