My name is Alexander (Alex) Powell. I have a strong passion for soccer and playing collegiately. My hope and desire is to find a college that allows for me to pursue my passion for soccer and also a degree in computer science or engineering.
I am a junior at Lawrence School in Sagamore Hills, Ohio. I am an active student with a strong GPA while taking challenging classes including Honors Pre-Calc and Physics. I have already been accepted into the AP Physics class for next year. I play both soccer and baseball at Lawrence and have earned First-Team Conference and Academic All Conference recognitions. I am a active member of National Honor Society (NHS), too.
Everest Premier FC is my club team for the past 4 years where I play year round. My predominate positions are center back and defensive mid. Recently I grew quite a bit and now learning how to use my 6' 2" height better to clear and control the middle of the field. In addition to club and high school soccer, I train and play at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Over the past 3 - 4 years I attend 2 - 3 training camps each year and periodically play as a guest player for IMG. I enjoy the quality of training and diversity of players I train and play with from around the world at IMG. This experience has prepared me well for playing at the collegiate level.
My strong work ethic, being a consummate team player and having strong soccer fundamentals has been a strong foundation to build upon and progress as a player. My strengths on the field are: defending the box, controlled short and long passes out of the back, field vision and organizing the defense.
Soccer has become increasingly more important to me over my teenage years. I went through some challenging personal times when I was 13 and 14 and the game of soccer helped me through these times. The camaraderie of the team, the intensity of the sport and the general passion that I have for soccer helped me stay focused and positive during this tough time. Not only did I learn a lot about myself during this period, but it gave me a greater understanding of why I love soccer so much.
Thank you for reading my profile and personal statement.
