Matty Pigman '27 Recruiting Profile

Hello coaches, I am Matty Pigman, a freshman at Athens High School. For as long as I can remember soccer has surrounded me, whether it be my brothers or my own. My love for this game originated when I was two years old, and I have poured my soul into it ever since. I played on my varsity team this fall as the only freshman on the team. My brother, Andy Pigman, was the captain. Playing with my brother deepened my already close relationship with him and I loved the culture that was built between teammates. 

This year for my varsity team I played defensive midfield, and box to box midfield. I scored 4 goals and had 5 assists. This winter and spring I will be playing for Sporting Columbus 2009 ECNL RL team. I will be #12 and usually playing CB. Recently I was awarded captaincy by my coach.

Playing soccer for so long I have learned to love the game and everything I do along the way. I have had a great relationship with all of my teammates and for that I am so grateful. I love to train and practice to sharpen my skills. I have practiced and played so much recently and have stayed healthy and still improving. I will never grow tired of playing the game.

In 2020 my skills really began to improve, during the pandemic I was able to practice so often and sharpen my skills. In December of 2020 my grandfather passed away. When I thought this year couldn’t get worse, this happened three days before Christmas. Everyone in my family was devastated. My grandfather was very close with all of us and loved us so much. I still honor him by supporting his sports teams. It is my goal to play soccer in college or professional to make him proud.
