Personal Statement
My professional goals include creating fun and innovative technology. Possible professional avenues include anything from making smart glasses, developing Mixed or VR training tools for sports (like STRIVR) and/or medical technology for children with disabilities, or working on space technology. These interests point towards majoring in a field such as physics, computer science, optical/electrical engineering, or game design.
I have the skills along with resiliency, work ethic, and vision to meaningfully contribute to any team. I am a technical player who can dribble, use both feet equally well, and have great vision to quickly pick out passes or exploit space. My technical skills and knowledge/vision of the game have allowed me to play every position on the field (except goalie!). I am a creative player and can score goals and create for others– coaches say they want me in the box. I also understand the need to work hard on both sides of the ball. My flexibility is an asset, and depending on the team, formation and tactics, I can fit well in any number of positions. I am a good teammate and always will do my best to help the team succeed. I make others around me better, and I am not afraid to pass so others can score instead of trying to be selfish. This year, as a senior I have been moved from my main position as a forward to play center mid due to the team composition and a lot of younger players. It's a different role that provides me with opportunities to help the younger players learn and succeed.
Growing up in San Diego provided me with great technical skills and knowledge of the game. It has been difficult moving to rural Oregon where the closest club team is 2.5 hours away (plus a time change). For two years, my parents drove me to play on the top club team in Idaho (Boise Nationals) where my team won two State Cups. But that took a lot time away from my schoolwork so last year, I stepped away from the team. I have kept up on my skills, participating in the ODP program, and often play pick-up with the local college players (a number are from Southern California – San Diego Surf, FC Golden State, etc.). I also train with Paul Wright (Speed to Burn) in San Diego at least once a year, while also playing futsal and when possible playing as a guest player with Westside Timbers. I think I would surprise some coaches – I don’t have the normal soccer resume but I’m a competitive, technically and tactically experienced player with a lot of potential. Additionally, one of my strengths is that I am able to listen and understand what the coach wants and immediately translate changes into a game setting.
