Personal Statement
As the goalkeeper for my Club’s top U17 team in the inaugural year of boys’ ECNL play, I have played against the best competition of my soccer career. My greatest growth as a player, however, came during my season with Itagui, a tournament-only start-up team which supplemented field work with intense Futsal training. My teammates were highly skilled, but every team we played was bigger, faster and stronger. We played to win with technique, finesse, heart and discipline, finishing the season with a hard-fought tournament championship. From that experience, I learned a great deal about the power of those qualities and the strength of a truly selfless team.
I am looking for a program which challenges me academically as well as athletically. Although I want to study Aerospace Engineering, my hobby is wilderness survival and primitive engineering and technology. To teach myself metal working, I designed and built my own charcoal forge from an old grill. I made my own fire-brick and rewired a salvaged hot tub blower to deliver air through bored black-iron pipe to reach forge temperatures in excess of 2600 degrees Fahrenheit. I want to empower my creativity and curiosity in the same way Itagui charged my leadership and determination.
