Personal Statement
Hi. My name is Ian Hilgendorff. I will graduate as part of the class of 2021. I have been playing soccer since I was 4 years old and I have a passion for the game. I am driven to try to reach the highest levels of soccer. This drive to succeed also translates into Academic success as I currently have a 4.0 GPA at highly regarded St. Andrew’s College in Canada. I relocated here with my family in 2019, previously attending Prestonwood Christian Academy in Plano, Texas. I would like to pursue a career in data science and business after soccer and I hope to merge my soccer and academic aspirations by playing soccer for a college that will allow me to pursue a high level business and data science/engineering program. My life experiences have also been very broad. I was born in England and moved to Canada when I was 3 years old. I attended a French language school and I am bilingual in French and English. I played at the highest level of soccer within Ontario, Canada and was voted the captain of my team for 4 years where I attended a special soccer focused high school. I was able to pursue my referee certification and referee youth soccer and also serve as a linesman for adult soccer. I also had the opportunity to play school soccer while on a 4 month student exchange program to France in 2015. In 2018 my family moved to Frisco, Texas where I joined the FC Dallas 2002 team playing in the Classic League.I believe in trying to be a good member of the community that you live in and I have used my soccer abilities to volunteer as a counselor at a youth soccer camp during the summer. I was a volunteer counselor training 8-10 year old players for two years. I also have joined the Me to We movement to take a week long trip in 2018 to help to build a school in Ecuador. Since returning to Canada in 2019, I have been attending St. Andrew’s College where I am a boarding student, playing in the varsity soccer program where I was recently named Co-Captain for my senior year. I hope that you will consider me as a member of your college soccer program. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Sincerely, Ian Hilgendorff
