Personal Statement

My name is Hudson Ross, and I am currently a senior at Judge Memorial Catholic High School in Salt Lake City, UT. I currently play club soccer as a member of Impact United, where I played outside back and center back. I am also a varsity starter, playing outside back, with my high school team  As I near the end of high school and prepare for college, a very important goal for me is to receive an excellent education. I understand how important it is to prepare for a career. My second goal is to play collegiate soccer. As a kid who began playing soccer at a very young age, it is something I enjoy most in life. First, I have done very well academically and have been able to maintain an excellent GPA. I have always been very dedicated in school and work very hard to be successful everyday. Second, I believe that my personality allows me to be a good team member. I am a relaxed and kind person who works well with everyone around me. I also respect my parents, teachers, and coaches, and appreciate everything that I can learn from them. I am always focused on doing well when I am faced with challenges. While I am always calm and easy-going, getting out on to the pitch and playing soccer lets me a different person. I am aggressive, assertive, and always ready to be the best in the game, not just for me, but for my teammates and coaches.

  • Evaluated at Showcase Camp - Salt Lake Boys on 11/21/2021 by Coach Doyle of U.S. Air Force Academy Skillset Overview Technical Abilities - 92 / 100 Passing - Creates opportunities for teammates with accurate passes. Rarely over or under hits the ball. Defending - Aggressive as a defender. Good footwork and positioning, and seems to enjoy the 1v1 battles. Tactical Abilities - 92 / 100 Reading The Game - Does well seeing the first level of pressure and making appropriate decision on the ball. Defensive Awareness - Understands team defensive schemes, shows understanding of positioning and angles. Physical Abilities - 92 / 100 Endurance - Great work rate throughout camp. Showed endurance that helped effectiveness, especially late. Speed - Great speed overall, in particular when running into space. Will be an important asset going forward. Mental Abilities - 95 / 100 Coachable - Responds well to coaching. Asked good questions and seemed to enjoy the learning process. Team Player - Great team-first attitude. Was encouraging and supportive to teammates throughout camp. Coach's Comments Hudson had a really good day with us at the Exact camp. He's still quite young (only a 9th grader) but showed plenty of potential to grow into a top-level player. He has a good understanding of the game, is a very good 1v1 defender, and makes good decisions with the ball. He is definitely one to keep and eye on as he grows and develops. This is something that cannot be overstated- work on being more and more comfortable with your weak foot. Whether you play out wide or find yourself in the middle of the field, you will need to have the confidence to play with your weak foot. Be careful about putting yourself under unnecessary pressure in the back. Limit your touches to only those that are required to get the job done. Use your creativity when you decide to go forward. I am a firm believer that you can never be "too good" at something. Continue to develop your ball-striking abilities with both feet, work on your defensive and attacking headers, make your communication skills even better.
