Personal Statement
My name is Ryan West. I am a Sophomore at Thomas Dale High School in Chester, VA. My club team is Richmond Chesterfield Strikers. I’ve played soccer as long as I can remember. My brother played soccer and my parents started me at an early age. I have tried other sports such as basketball and football but I keep coming back to soccer. While I have always played soccer, in eighth grade, soccer became my life. I play year round between my school team, my club team, indoor in the winter and sand soccer in the summer. I watch professional soccer and conduct training on my own.
I played center back for most of my career. My strengths are reading the game and one-on-one defending. I was named Defender of the Year for my middle school team in 8th grade. Recently I have played more as a defensive midfielder. In the midfield, I am well rounded with my major strength being long passing. I stay busy with soccer, as a Boy Scout, and working as a lifeguard while maintaining a 4.15 GPA. I have been in honors classes since 6th grade. Over the years I have come into a leadership role in my club team. My coach has placed responsibility on me to lead my teammates and lift them up.
I do not know what I want to study, but once I decide, my studies will be important to me. I want to attend a college east of the Mississippi. I am looking for a team where I can get regular play time and the opportunity to make an impact. I a looking for teammates who are as competitive and determined as I am. I would like to work under a coaching staff that is willing to work with me to grow and improve as a player. I would like a scholarship to help with tuition.
