Personal Statement
Two years ago my local club created an academy team. I had prepared months in advance, and I could envision what it would look like to make this team. Many of the kids that I grew up playing with have been on the top team with the same coach throughout the years. Finally, arriving at the tryout I expected to make the team. Unfortunately, I got the news that I was not able to make the roster. I was sad for a long time and regretted not playing to my standards. This fueled a fire in me that was like nothing else in my entire sports career. After this moment I knew that I needed to work hard in my craft to not only play in the next level but to truly understand what it takes to have setbacks and to move on from them. A small goal that I shortly after was that I made the varsity soccer the next season.
My background is a big factor in how I carry myself. I am a first generation Afghan-American, and something that I was taught since I was a boy is to appreciate everything. My parents escaped a war-torn country and came to America as a refugee. This inspired me to do something great and playing soccer is something that I love to play and take to the next level. I am never satisfied and always hungry to achieve what I desire by any means necessary. I am an IB candidate and take my academics very seriously and hope to attend a university where I can not only strive on the field but off the field.
