Personal Statement

My name is Alexavier Mejia, I have transferred to further my education and soccer to Saint Martin's University DII, back home to WA. Recently returned from playing two years at FC Malaga City Academy in Estepona, Spain where I played against some of Europe's finest football clubs; including Real Betis, Athletico Madrid, Valencia CF, Manchester City and others to name a few.  Last year I played with New Mexico State University UDA Soccer academy that played year round with a minimum of 30 matches schedule. I played in the UPSL Premier Division and was a great experience and awesome teammates I played with.

I like soccer because it's a competitive sport. I think soccer is fun and a team sport, makes me think before I get on the field and off the field. I believe to be in a successful team, you must be able to communicate, have camaraderie, teamwork and grit. One unique thing about me is that I can pretty much play every position, and I am very confident where I play, depending where coach needs me. I am a team player and my coach likes to play me in different positions, due to being dominant with both feet.

I am looking to study social work. Thank you to my family and friends for their support. Especially my parents who have been there every minute of each match. I am a coachable player and I love to learn new things. My commitment to soccer is what ever it takes to accomplish my goals and my team. I get my motivation from my father, who is a combat veteran, purple heart recipient from the war in Iraq. He was injured and has gone through so much, and he never quit. He motivates me everyday!!!

  • 2019 Eagleclaw FC Valencia Discovery Program (Classic 1 Premier Level (Starter))
  • COVID19 has really impacted soccer this year. I am working out, running 16-20 miles a week, getting many touches on the ball at home. Watching soccer matches as well on TV. Our team works out 2 times a week virtually.
  • 2019 Eagleclaw FC Valencia Discovery Program 04/05 (Classic 1 Premier Level (Starter))
  • 2nd Year with the Valencia Discovery Team, we had a great season and learned so much fro Coach and other positions. For the 2nd year in a row, I have been offered a roster spot on the Valencia Discovery Program (04/05 Team). Below is my official offer: Dear Alexavier, CONGRATULATIONS! I am writing to officially offer you a roster spot on the VDP/AA Valencia Discovery Team for the 2020/21 season. You are designated a VDP/AA player. We value players who have the determination, passion and a strong desire to play at Eagleclaw. We highly value you as a player and appreciate your loyalty to our club and the Eagleclaw crest. You know Eagleclaw well, and we know you. This is your home. We are excited you are part of the Eagleclaw family! We are looking forward to an exciting year ahead and we have a lot of ambitious plans for the VDP teams. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for each player to take their game to the next level. By educating players in a very Spanish-inspired method of playing, we prepare them for many future opportunities, whether it be high school soccer, college soccer or perhaps one day the possibility of playing at the highest levels in Spain. Eagleclaw’s player development curriculum is uniquely positioned to help you work toward your soccer dreams and ambitions. As an official partner with Spanish professional powerhouse Valencia CF, we are proud to be the only youth club in the U.S. to provide such an opportunity to American players. In addition to training in a Spanish style according to the Valencia CF curriculum, which has produced some of the top Spanish players in the world, each player will be monitored during the course of the season and have an opportunity to train at the Valencia CF academy as well as compete in the annual Valencia CF Soccer Cup tournament in April 2021 (this is a separate cost). It is our goal for the entire 04/5 VDP team to travel to Spain in April 2021 for this tournament. More about that later! We follow the Valencia youth academy’s work/rest schedule by training and playing over a 10-month schedule. Your training schedule/location will be announced when it is available with training locations around Tukwilla/Renton Starfire, Valley Ridge, and surrounding fields. We expect to begin training in May 2020 and continue through June in preparation for a mid-June tournament. We will take July off until we resume with the Valencia CF Summer Academy on July 20-24 (this is a separate cost). We strongly recommend that players register for and attend the Valencia CF Summer Academy. There are some important things for you to consider. First, the VDP is a performance-driven pathway. This means everything is measured and everything is earned. Second, our club structure envisions a first-team (VDP) and a second-team (AA). There are only two-player designations, “VDP/AA” and “AA”. There is always fluidity between our first and second teams during each season. This means that every VDP/AA player will be expected to play with the AA team when directed by their coach. Also, AA players will have the opportunity to earn training and playing time with the VDP team, in their coach’s sole discretion. This is how professional clubs work. Valencia has its first team and its second team or “B” team, which is also called “MESTALLA”. Sounders FC has their first team and Tacoma Defiance (formerly S2). The competition between first and second-team players is healthy and necessary to ensure that all players are given appropriate incentives, challenges, and opportunities. This 1st team/2nd team structure is critical to our Academy structure and our Club’s culture. To accept your offer, you must act within 24 hours of this email. After that time, we must consider offering the spot to the next player in line. Accepting the offer is easy. Just to the Eagleclaw website and register for the 2020/21 Valencia Discovery Program/Advanced Academy Program.
  • 2018 Eagleclaw FC Valencia Discovery Program 04/05 (Classic 1 Premier Level (Starter))
  • This is my 1st year making the 04/05 Valencia Discovery Program. The (VDP) is to develop ambitious American players with the talent necessary to join the Valencia CF youth academy.* Together, Eagleclaw and Valencia are committed to providing the scouting, training, and monitoring necessary to develop a new generation of players, boys and girls, who can compete at the highest levels. Along the way, additional talent development opportunities will be presented to top players, including opportunities for extended training in Spain on a temporary residential basis. This is talent development on a performance-driven pathway, for the performance-driven player. VDP players are directly scouted and selected by the coaches and scouts of Valencia CF under the supervision of the Technical Manager (Toni Navarro- VDP Technical Manager Valencia CF) and and (Manuel Ruiz-1st Team Scout Valencia CF) continuously monitored by them. Daily, weekly and monthly training plans for each age group will conform to the requirements of the Valencia CF youth academy, taking into account learning objectives and proper periodization.
  • 2017 Eagleclaw FC Advanced Academy 04/05 Team (Puget Sound Premier League (Starter))
  • My first year with Eagleclaw Club Team. The Advanced Academy is the home of Eagleclaw Football Club's senior competitive teams and is for players between the age of 13-18. This is where the hard work of the Primary Academy years pays off. Players in the Advanced Academy are selected through Eagleclaw's Tryout Combine process (see below) that each year is held in Jan-Feb for boys and April-May for girls. The Tryout Combine is open to everyone, Eagleclaw players and non-Eagleclaw players alike. Each Advanced Academy team has a dedicated coaching staff and trains according to Eagleclaw's Spanish-inspired game model and system of play with training support provided by coaches from the Valencia CF youth academy. These teams compete in the most competitive leagues available. The goal of the Advanced Academy is to continue individual player development, but within the team context. These are the ages where team development makes much more sense if the goal is to develop players who will have opportunities to play at higher levels.

  • The National Cup is US Club Soccer’s cup-based national championship series. Qualifying 13-U through 18/19-U teams from National Cup Regionals and qualifying state cups advance to the National Cup Finals. My team, Eagleclaw FC Valencia Discovery Program, participated. I played every match and we went 2-1 into the finals against a California team, which we lost. I played left and right wing each match. I know we did not get the result we wanted, but we came in 2nd place in the National Cup Finals, for the Northwest, so very proud of that. It was great to play with my team again after spending a year in Spain.

Also it was a learning experience for the entire team and we will just get better. We have to trust the process.

  • Advanced Athlete Performance with James Riley
  • 2/06/19 to 4/10/19
  • This is a 10 Week program, 2 hours a week to train with and learn from an experienced ex-professional and former Wake Forest University player who succeeded at the highest levels of the game in the U.S. with a lengthy pro career featuring 11 seasons in Major League Soccer (MLS). James will teach you the skills and habits used by the pros to train, maintain and reach new levels of abilities as an up-and-coming elite footballer. The Advanced Athlete Performance is a holistic program focused on helping our Advanced Academy players in three core areas of their development as high performance athletes: Technical skills training, Soccer-specific mental skills training and Development of nutritional habits for the high-performance athlete. During each 2-hour session, James will work with each player to diagnose your technique, zero-in on areas that need improvement and then get you working to reach a new level of sharpness and efficiency to your ball control. There is an important difference between technique and technical skill. Technique is your ability to control the ball in different ways and with different surface of your foot. Technical skill is the ability to use your technique in a game setting, under pressure and decide whether, when and how to use it. The point of technical skill is to create time and space for you to dribble, pass or finish into the goal, but getting right is all about good decision making. Through a combination of individual technique training, rondo-based exercises and small-sided games, James helped Alexavier to take his technique and technical skill to the next level. Advanced Athlete Performance is led by Eagleclaw coach and JR7 founder, James Riley. James played collegiately at Wake Forest and then spent 11 years in MLS with New England Revolution, San Jose Earthquakes, Chivas USA, Colorado Rapids, DC United and LA Galaxy. He won the MLS Cup in 2014 with LA Galaxy.

  • VALENCIA CF SUMMER ACADEMY
  • 7/16/18 to 7/20/18
  • Each summer, coaches from the Valencia CF youth academy travel to Seattle for a week-long Summer Academy. Through the unique collaboration between Valencia CF and Eagleclaw Football Club, we have designed a program that is extremely fun, but also deeply instructional. The players are trained according to the same methodology used in the Valencia CF youth academy, which also runs through the spine of Eagleclaw's Spanish-inspired curriculum. The Valencia CF Summer Academy is truly unique among Seattle summer soccer programs. This is not about 2 or 3 hours of training for a couple of days. This is real training. The program offers 5 hours of instruction Monday through Friday, so 25 hours of training per week. Each days' training is carefully planned in a comprehensive weeklong curriculum. The objective: developing footballers who can think and play quickly. The program certainly focuses players on the development of critical technical skills, but the modern game, the Spanish game, requires players that perform in tight space, under pressure and make excellent decisions.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
