Personal Statement
Hello Coach,
I feel like I'm one of the better goalkeepers no one has heard about, or are just now starting to hear about. I started playing soccer when I was 5 years old and realized I loved playing goalie at age 7. Growing up I loved playing others sports, so we opted not to play select soccer. Entering my 9th grade year I beat out a sophomore and senior for the starting position at Rogers High School (4A Puyallup, WA), but that was "The Covid Year" and the day before the first game the season everything was canceled. I again was the starter during my sophomore year in a modified season. The highlight of that season was a shootout win against top 5 Puyallup High School.
My family moved to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island to care for my elderly grandmother between my sophomore and junior year. Friday Harbor High School is a small school that most colleges/universities don't pay much attention to. Day one I became the starter and our team had good success earning 4th place in the state my junior season. The first place and second place team were from our division. I earned First Team All-League Honors after our fall 2021 season and game MVP during our semifinal game against Orcas Island. Also, since we live on a small island the options for select soccer are nonexistent.
I just finished my senior season, and it was a great season! We won the 1B/2B State Championship over our biggest rival and defending State Champions, Orcas Island. Our semifinal game went to a shootout where I blocked 3 of 6 shots and was named MVP to advance to the championship game. Matter of fact, our District Championship against Orcas Island also went to a shootout. We won that game after 8 rounds while blocking 3 shots. This was a magical season, but I am not ready for my soccer career to be over.
In college I would like to study Music Therapy, and or, Audio Production. I play guitar and sing, and would like improve in these areas while in college. I am a good student with a 3.88 GPA.
I would look forward to a conversation about how I could fit into your school and program.
Thank you for your consideration,
Luke Totten
