Personal Statement

I first got into soccer at age 3 after seeing some adults playing soccer on the beach. I then started playing goalkeeper at age 7, and started taking the game seriously, by practicing at home and finding how I could improve. A real game changing expierence for me, was in 2015; when my team was playing our final season game. We had gone down 7-0 in the first half, and I knew that I had to help pull it together. So, in the second half, I helped lead the team by scoring 5 goals and making 4 assists to pull it back to 12-11. Even though we lost, I learned about the importance of working hard, communication, and teamwork.

On my team, being the goalkeeper, I focus a lot on communication and leadership. I believe that its very important for the team to be able to move as a unit, than alone. I would be a good candidate for your team because of how I can lead a team.

  • From: Feener, Jacob <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, August 12, 2019 11:51 AM Subject: RE: Luke Resend Eval Luke Pelton ID Camp Eval Luke it was a pleasure to have you at camp. I loved your work ethic and fearlessness to go up against anyone. I think your ability to make saves is a strong point for you. Work on staying forward both when set and diving. Continue to work on having consistent angles and setting off your line to create better angles for yourself. The game has rapidly changed with a goalkeepers use of feet, and I thought yours were good. You have a good first touch and played short well to your defenders in the game. I want you to continue to look to break that first line of pressure and play long to outside mids or wingers; long ball needs some work but that will continue with age and strength. Dealing with crosses is my biggest immediate work area. I think this is usually the biggest work area for young goalkeepers and will get better as you mature. However I think working on your hands to catch more as well as pushing yourself, especially in in practice, to go for balls, within your six, can help you improve quicker and once your body does mature make this an area of strength. Lastly, continue to work on your hands in general. You did well to make big saves but struggled to hold the ball consistently. The better your hands are the less corners and second chance opportunities you will give up. It was a pleasure to work with you at camp. Good luck in any of your upcoming games and I look forward to seeing your growth as a goalkeeper. Hope to see you at camp again next year.

Training

  • Goalkeeper training
  • 7 years
  • Work with Offensive Goalkeeping owner Chris Bauer
  • Indoor Goalkeeping @ Arena Sports
  • 10 years
  • Playing Indoor Soccer on the side for friend's teams since I was 5. Playing goalkeeper in indoor has sharpened my reflexes and ability to make many saves in a short period of time. It has also taught me not to lose hope and mindset after conceding a goal, given the often high score lines during these games.
