Hi, my name is Matthew Miller. I was born on October 16th, 2007, in Port Angeles, Washington. The first word I ever spoke was "ball" but of course, it came out more like "baww". Ever since I could walk, I've had a burning passion to excel in whatever I put my mind to. Soccer has been my shelter throughout the storm. If I wasn't out practicing, I was watching soccer in the living room or running back plays in my head from a previous match. My athletic abilities and talent have felt like this instinctual gift from God, and I am grateful that I can share my talent with others. I've built my strongest relationships through soccer, and find connections like no other when I surround myself with other passionate players. My love for soccer does not come before my love for God. Without him, I would be lifeless and stripped of my passion. I believe God gave me athletic abilities to glorify him. As of now, I am a sophomore at Port Angeles High School and one of four captains on our team. Last year, I was babied by the seniors who led the team, but this year it's my time to take the freshman under my wings. We have a very young team, but we all have one thing in common; passion. As we strive to make playoffs, we grow not just as players but as young men as well. The journey is just as important as the destination, and I believe that correlates with life as well.
On the pitch, I play striker and center attacking mid because scoring is necessary for a victory. Since I was little, I've always played striker. That included being more selfish and greedy when I received the ball. Currently, I find myself loving the midfield as well. I can use my speed and agility to win balls on defense and play forward. Whatever my coach and team need, I will provide as best as I can. As my team's scoring leader, I am often put at the nine and depended on to put the ball into the back of the net. When I score goals, it is a feeling like no other. As my teammates crowd around me and celebrate, and the crowd roars my name, I am reminded why I love the game so dearly. Baseball and Basketball are much more popular in Port Angeles, but I strive to be a shimmering light for the soccer community, inspiring the youth and reaching goals I never knew were possible.
Throughout my life, soccer has been at the forefront of my mind. My dream to play professional soccer has always distracted me from things, but never the classroom. I have never set low expectations in the schools I've attended. Since a young age, I've been determined in school and loved learning. I went to a private school from kindergarten to third grade, and a highly capable program (at a public school) from fourth to sixth. Now at Port Angeles High School, I take honors classes and received a 3.97 GPA for the 1st semester of my sophomore year. I plan to keep excelling in the classroom and maintain a high GPA throughout high school and college.
Sincerely, Matthew
