Personal Statement

Since I was a little kid soccer has been a big part of my life.  I started playing around the age of four and instantly fell in love. I have learned many important lessons from my coaches, teachers, and my parents. The most important lesson I ever learned was taught to me by my dad. He said "It's okay to get beat in sports, but it's not okay to lose." Twelve year old me was probably super confused by this statement my dad had just told me. But as I got older I realized what he meant. Getting beat is a whole lot different than losing. Losing means you put minimal effort in, and you did not do the very best you could.  When you get beat, you at least get the satisfaction of knowing you did the absolute best you could possibly do. Since I realized what my dad actually meant by that lesson I have given 110% in all soccer practice, soccer games, and equally, if not more importantly, academics.

I have always held myself to high academic standards. If I ever had the option to retake a test to receive a higher score, I would retake it. During this COVID-19 Pandemic my friends have complained a lot about the amount of work teachers have assigned us. But many of my friends are also procrastinators. I always do my very best to complete assignments right when they are assigned, both online and during regular school days. When I do that I find myself having a lot of free time towards the end of the week. With all this free time I have,  I find myself spending a lot of time outside. I am lucky enough to have a soccer net in my backyard. I often spend many hours a week shooting and working on the small things in my game. Continuing to get better my game does not stop when the weather starts to get colder. I continue to work on the small things throughout the winter.

Winter time is not a time to sit back and relax if you are an athlete. During the winter I play ice hockey at the varsity level. Hockey keeps me in shape, especially when you spend many nights solely working on conditioning at practices.  Although I am unable to play outdoor soccer on a full field during the winter, I still find time to play.  I have the privilege of playing on a smaller indoor field. During winter I play in competitive high school indoor league and on a competitive men's league team. During this time I get the opportunity to work on my small sided game. My outdoor season picks back up again in the spring with a club team. This summer I will be creating many plans for captain's practices. I was voted to be captain by my teammates and coaches.

Playing college soccer has always been a dream of mine, and I'm going to do everything in my ability to make the dream become a reality.

Thanks for taking the time to learn more about me!
