Personal Statement
I expect my college years to be filled with personal and professional improvement. My goal is to receive a Bachelor of Science in Business Entrepreneurship that will help me for achieving my ultimate goal of owning a business. In the pool, I am dedicated to be a productive swimmer and a positive teammate. As I grow physically and mentally throughout my high school and college swimming career, I am committed to supporting my team through continued improvement and training. Most importantly, I will always act respectfully in and out of the pool, knowing that my actions reflect on my team, my coaches and my school.
I feel that I will be able to achieve the goals I mentioned above based on what I have accomplished so far in my swimming career. This past spring I achieved a Junior National cut in the 200 yard fly. I was particularly proud of these achievements because they came after a rather large plateau that lasted over a year. Successfully coming through that challenge is truly my greatest achievement in the sport. Continuing to push myself and relentlessly train while not seeing improvement was brutal, but it made me stronger. Luckily I had a good support system during this time; my coach, Tim McCormick met with me personally throughout this challenge to keep me mentally in check and to let me know I wasn’t alone. I also had my teammates, some of who had gone through the same challenge before me, and that helped me to know that I would eventually get there. A support system is necessary and I hope that now I can be there to support others who have challenges. I also really hope to find a college team that offers a good support system.
