Cameron Drake '23 Recruiting Profile

When I was about 7 years old, I completed all the swimming lesson levels and walked out to the club swim coach and asked him what I need to know how to do in order to get on the swim team because it looked fun. I have been swimming ever since. Swim has been a constant throughout my life. 

I have swam  for increasingly competitive club teams, participated for years in Junior Lifeguard programs and served as an aide/instructor, and was asked by my coach to coach our club's recreational summer league teams for youth.  Though I played water polo for a short time and enjoyed it, I realized swim was my true passion and decided to dedicate myself to improving my times. Even throughout Covid, when all meets were closed for a year and a half in our region, I continued to practice almost daily. Swim is about more than just fast times for me. It is a way to relieve stress and build community.

Luckily my high school offers strong programs both in swim and academics. I have taken several AP history courses and additionally by the time I graduate, will have 9+ college credits from taking dual enrollment college classes. I also elected to take a fourth year of math even though it is not required. I was invited to join the National Society of High School Scholars  this past year.

My goal is to continue to pursue academic excellence and my passion swim in college.
