Gavin Souttere '18 Recruiting Profile

I have been swimming since I was four years old. When I first jumped in the pool, I knew that I enjoyed the water. For several years, I was on the baseball, basketball, and soccer team and surfed as well ... all while continuing to swim full time. By the age of 12, I stopped playing all other organized sports and focused primarily on competitive swimming. Over my 11 year swimming career, I have been part of two San Diego-Imperial All-Star Teams, one Western Zone Team and broken team records. Since meeting Jason Lezak in 2016, and hearing him speak about how he didn’t go to the Olympics until later in his career, even though he was out of college and older than his peers he continued to train and made the Olympic Team again at age 31. Jason has further inspired me to continue to train hard and not set limits on myself. I feel my swimming career is taking off, look forward hitting a higher level this year, and pursuing my goal of going to Olympic Trials in 2020, and beyond. I enjoy camping, biking, snowboarding and family road trips.

In the classroom, I am enrolled in Honors and AP classes and maintain a high GPA. I want to attend a college that encourages individual success while focusing on a team environment that makes it fun to be an accomplished athlete.
