Personal Statement
I immediately fell in love with swimming as soon as I jumped in the water on my first day of high school practice freshman year. I had no previous experience with swimming and was not able to make any of the sets, however that did not deter me. I started to swim on a club team sophomore year and saw all of my times fall. The hundred freestyle (SCY) is one of my main events, I had went from 1.04.7 as a freshman, to 56.04 as a sophomore and to 51.07 as a junior. I am going to be a senior in high school next year and I am continuing to see this rapid time drop I had already beat 51.07 and now have a current time of 50.34. I recently joined a more rigorous swimming program at Saint Andrews and I hope to see more personal bests. My goal from freshman year was to make states, and I plan on going next year.
Swimming has always been a way for me to get my mind off of school. I am lucky enough to say that I was in the top 5% of my class for all three years of high school. This was not an easy task because it caused me to miss some swim practices during finals and before big tests. I also have created a ping pong club at school with a mission to promote athleticism to students who are unable to make varsity sports or exercise on a regular basis. Other than that, I participate in many other clubs such as National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Music National Honor Society, math academic games (vice president), and science Olympiad (officer). As if that were not enough, I also play trumpet in my high school band, and have been on the track team all three years of high school. The schedule is definitely challenging but certainly worth it!
