Let's start at the beginning with my parents. My father served in the Airforce for 28 years and retired in 2016. My mother served in the airforce and retired shortly after my sister was born. After I was born in Las Vegas we moved to Mississippi for a couple of years. Then we moved to South Carolina for 4 years and now I am currently residing in Hawaii, the place where I've called home for 10 years. My academic environment has changed throughout my life. In elementary, I attended public schooling. From 6th-8th, I attended a Private school. Then in the 9th grade, my mother started homeschooling me, for more flexibility due to family issues on the mainland. Throughout all of these different environments, I have learned many different life lessons along the way. Homeschooling for the past 4 years has taught me more about who I am as a person, citizen, brother, son, friend, and athlete than public and private school combined. Homeschooling has helped me with critical thinking skills, social skills, character development, and learning how to become an independent young adult. I also have a few extracurricular activities I would like to share. For one, I am a competitive swimmer. Swimming has not just gotten me in shape but has taught me the importance of having self-motivation, goals, and a good spirit of competitiveness. I have seen my times, performance, and efficiency drastically improve over the past 2 years. Other than swimming, I was also a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol. I rapidly advanced in this program and quickly climbed the ranks of Cadet Airman to Cadet Senior Master Sergeant in a span of 1 year. The Civil Air Patrol's core values are as follows, integrity, respect, excellence, and volunteer service. I have been put into two leadership positions, the safety non-commissioned officer, and the physical fitness officer. Being in these two positions was not only humbling but also eye-opening. My parents have always taught me never to give up and through hard work, dedication, and excellence I can accomplish anything. Discipline is also a very important thing I have learned in not only the Civil Air Patrol but in all categories of life. I have used my self-discipline when it comes to practice and meets. My coach praises my discipline when it comes to improving strokes, times, and other skills. He would say, "Christian is the type of athlete that is attentive, disciplined, and self-motivated. If I ask him to change something, he'll change it, no questions asked." The life lessons I have learned being in a military family, public school, private school, homeschool, competitive swim team, and Civil Air Patrol is what I will bring to any team I swim for, no questions asked and that is what makes me different from any other student swimmer, in the pool.
