My name is Gage Fouse and I'm 17 years old. I currently live with my parents in Pocatello, Idaho for almost 3 years now and we moved here from Ohio. I'm a junior at Century High School and I plan on swimming in college. My swimming career is somewhat short because I started to actually compete when I started swimming my freshman year on the club team here. Before high school, I swam back in Ohio before we moved here and I swam for about 2 seasons with the middle school team, but I didn't swim year round. Once I started with this team as I mentioned, I started to really want to take swimming to the next level and see how far I could go. Since the start of Freshman year I've had a 4.0 GPA or above because of the AP and honors classes that I've been enrolled in. Also, I enrolled in the National Honors Society at Century High School and I plan to graduate with high honors or even highest honors. I'm now starting to realize the challenges of Junior year because it is one of the hardest years of school and I'm now learning how to deal with the challenge academically. Just like competing for my club team here, I learn to overcome the challenges that are presented in my path to success and that's what makes me a excellent athlete and student. Some of my achievements in this high school journey would be a state championship title for our men's high school team. Also, I placed second in each of my individual events at state. (4A). Since swimming has just been sanctioned last year as a sport in Idaho, I've had the privilege to see this sport progress throughout my high school career. Since other club swimmers here have almost been swimming their entire lives and I've been actually competing for almost 3 years. I would say that I’m not as experienced as the other club swimmers in this state. This just makes me work more and more every time that I jump in the pool and execute a great practice or race that I can focus on making myself faster in. I hate to compare myself to others, but it's one of the ways that I can use to push myself. These things make me a more competitive athlete and this is what I can hopefully use to convince college coaches to recognize my effort level and determination not just in the pool, but with my academics.
