My name is Michael Collins. I am currently a sophomore in high school. I have been involved in two activities that I love since the first grade. Those are Scouting and Swimming. I am currently a Life Scout in Boy Scouts of America. Scouting has taught me leadership and stewardship. My love for swimming happened one summer day at the young age of six. I felt the calling of the cool refreshing water within a family friend’s swimming pool. Like a siren’s song to a wayward sailor, it called. Drawing me to the diving board like a moth to a flame, I answered. Diving off into the blue it was at that moment I developed a love for being in the water. There is an indescribable feeling when an individual finds utopia in any activity. For me, it is swimming.
These are the goals I plan to achieve during high school. Better my performance through swim clinics, strength training, swim practices and nutrition. Continue to boost my GPA, all the while completing my journey to Eagle Scout (scouting’s highest rank). Last but not least, find a prom date.
From years of swimming on Greater Evansville Aquatic Team, I have learned that my abilities have to benefit both the team and myself. Through Scouting BSA, I have developed leadership by attending Junior Leadership Training (JLT) and National Youth Leadership Training (NYTL) courses. By participating in various service projects within my community and being a member of the Order of the Arrow expanded my understanding of stewardship. What I can bring to any team is leadership, desire, guidance, competitiveness, sportsmanship and value.
