My name is Evan Dies. I will be in the graduating class of 2019 at Penn High School in Mishawaka, Indiana. I have been swimming competitively since I was 9 years old. I have participated in every long and short course season since then. I have also been a member of my club’s state championship team during each course. I am a varsity high school swimmer at Penn. In 2016, I was voted most valuable freshman and in 2017 most valuable swimmer. I was also voted co-mvp of the Northern Indiana Conference meet in February of 2018.
I believe that swimming is among the most competitive and tough sports. In order to be a competitive swimmer, practice has to be taken seriously. I have put a great amount of effort into my practices, and that has allowed me to continually drop time. I follow my coach's instruction and have learned to lead my team mates by example. I set goals for my performance and have learned how to accept both wins and defeats as a professional athlete. My most recent accomplishment is swimming a Futures Championships cut time in my 100 breaststroke at 58.25 SCY. I am looking forward to cutting more time during my upcoming club and senior season.
Academics are another area of competitive focus for me. I have maintained a 3.75 GPA while taking honors and AP classes at Penn High School. I am ranked in the top third of my graduating class 232/842. I plan to pursue a pre-optometry major and expect that my studies will challenge me while in college. I will continue to use hard work and dedication to achieve my goals in both swimming and academics.
