Personal Statement
Dear Coach,
My name is Bernardo Fontana de Moraes, a 16 years old swimmer and student. I live in Curitiba, the capital of the state of Parana (located in the south of Brazil). I am currently studying at Colegio Positivo, which is the best school in my state and one of the best in the country. Taking the advantage, I would like to talk about myself, my education, my swimming career and my future plans.
Because it has always been my dream to study and swim in the best country of both and for the reason that I hope to start my university studies in the fall of 2024, I wanted to contact you as I would like to learn more about your team, academic opportunities and campus life (facilities, dormitories,…).
First, I would like to say a few words about myself and my career plans. As I am a huge fan of sports, since I was a kid, I have always watched college games and that interested me a lot. Ever since, my dream was always to be part of this and feel the spirit of being a student-athlete.
Moreover, by building my swimmer and student career in the best place to do this, the U.S, I am sure that I will succeed in what I want to do in my life. Something that I think will help me getting there, is my life experience. Considering that I went 6 times to U.S, I think I obtained enough experience in the aspects of how Americans live and what their lifestyle (which I am a huge fan of). Additionally, another very important experience that I am grateful of is my 2 week-practice at Azura training Camp, that I participated in 2018, which helped me understand more how it is to swim at high level and study with efficiency. However, what differs me from my teammates is my determination and be a leader that always want to swim for my team in the first place and see the whole team happy, because I am sure I can help them improve their skills. Another relevant aspect of myself is my passion for swimming, that helped me to not miss a single practice in 4 consecutive years (6x a week water and 3x Dryland), as well as always be the first one to enter in the pool for practice and the last to leave. As a person that swim at the best team in the South of the country and ranked top 5 National since he was 3 years old, I am sure that I earned a lot of experience for my entire life. In addition I would like to point out some extracurricular notes about me: Former Tennis and Soccer player, play every kind of sport (Basketball, Soccer, American Football,...), participation in Triathlon Sprint competition (5th State 15-29 age group), love to Run and Bike.
About my studies, once my academic development is very big (Toefl (565), Cambridge B2 - 185 certificate, Cambridge C1 -186 certificate, University of Michigan ECCE- Honors in Reading and listening/ Pass with 760 in Writing and 800 in Speaking,ENEM- 680 points), I hope to obtain good scholarships. Furthermore, I always studied at private schools (Marista and Positivo), something that I am sure it helped me achieve my goals both in studies and sport. Moreover, I have also finished 2 English courses (Cultura Inglesa and Phil Young’s), that are considered two of the best English schools in Brazil.
Although my athletic curriculum might not be one of the best, I am sure I can improve a lot in the next months and much more if I could conciliate my studies with swimming. Some of my awards are:
Age 8/9- 200 Free 7th, 400 Free 5th National, 100/200 Free South Brazilian champion
Age 9/10- 100 Free 16th, 400 Free 10th National
Age 12/13- 100 Back 8th South Brazilian, 400 Free 14th, 50 Free 10th State
Age 16/17- 400 Free 5th State and 35th National, 100 Back 6th State
Last, but not least, I would like to talk about my future plans. One of them is related to my preferred fields of study - major in Economics and minor in Engineering. A reason why I chose Economics was because I always liked to see and learn about Stock Exchange. And Engineering for the reason that I really appreciate the area in which my father was graduated.
With all said, I would like to say that I have been searching a lot and your team has interested me in a different way, and this is why I want to become part of this amazing team and help you to continue doing this spectacular job. I believe that I have the necessary capacity and the team energy that you are looking for.
