Personal Statement
Swimming and just enjoying water have been a part of my life. I have always found myself drawn to water; it must be part of my DNA because both my parents are from the historical fishing village of Port Royal. Even though I was unable to swim at first, I felt as if it was a part of who I was and would become. I have tried many other sports such as: cricket, football/soccer, tennis and chess. I did well and was able to represent my elementary school by competing in many school level competitions. In the long run the sport I gravitated towards the most was swimming. I started swimming competitively at the age of 10 and have since dedicated myself to it. Swimming was my sport.
Swimming for the last seven years have helped in my growth and development as an individual tremendously. It has built my confidence, helped me to develop very good time management skills to balance athletics with my education and excel in both, a healthy life style, self-discipline and brought out my leadership qualities.
Swimming and being a part of a team have shaped my life for the better and I hardly think I would be who I am today without swimming. I have gained knowledge of the sport, close friends who I value and mental agility. For me to achieve my goals of representing my country at the highest level in the sport as well as embracing my love for art and creativity.
